I have been playing didgeridoo since 1996. My first real foray into dance music came in 1998 when I attended the Megadog Beach Festival in Cornwall after returning from a period of work and travel in Tanzania. I was so inspired by what I heard and experienced, that I decided to incorporate my didg playing into this style of music.
At first I started out by playing along with various techno and trance DJ's at clubs (The Fridge, Club 414, The Pleasure Rooms, Tyssen Street (when it was open!), the Drome (again, when it was open!) and others) and squat parties in London. Whilst this was good practice for me, I grew bored of this after a year or so and decided to involve myself in a drum and bass live PA ("Koru") based in Brixton.
I played with them for a few months, mostly around London, but also at festivals like the Lizard Eclipse in Cornwall. This introduced me to the production side of things and I was hooked. I didn't like being a passive member of the band who "just played didg". I wanted to actively create tracks from start to end. My stumbling block was money. As we all know, studio equipment does not come cheap. So with that (and one or two other things) in mind I took out a career development loan, trained as a software developer, earned some money and bought some gear. Shortly after I joined up with another drum and bass live PA ("Impact ") and gigged with them. This was fun for a while, but I found myself becoming "the didg player" again, so I decided to call it a day.
After a halloween party in Bristol a couple of years ago, at which his psytrance live PA ("OOOD") was playing, I got to know Colin Bennun. We have since become friends and have started writing tracks (mostly psytrance) together from time to time. He is also involved with the live PA side of things too when possible. He runs another project called "Unconscious Collective" (dedicated to writing diverse music with diverse musicians). In a similar fashion, I am also a member of his live PA as and when time (and Colin!) allows.
I have the good fortune to work in my day job with talented guitarist, Joe Weinstock. He features on several of my tracks, and I hope to involve him in future tracks and gigs.
I have played internationally twice - at the Psynews party in Belgium in July 2002 and the Earthdance party put on by Boom Records in Holland in October 2002, and at various events here in the UK.
